Instructional Coaching
Essential Questions for Life

This course explores how skilled questioners intentionally scaffold questions to help learners construct meaning. When coaches have a clear direction and understand their audience well, they can determine the types of questions to ask and differentiate them for individuals.
In this course, participants will examine various forms of questioning—with an emphasis on Questions for Life®—to guide others in becoming proficient questioners who, in turn, are more responsive to student needs.
Course Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of modeling and applying effective communication skills in the coaching process.
- Describe the purpose of each questioning mode—and the skills associated with each—within the coaching process.
- Summarize the modes of effective questioning that coaches encourage and watch for during classroom observations.
- Explore the types of questions that may be used to structure coaching conferences to maximize critical thinking.
- Generate questions for debriefing and fostering teacher reflection.
