Instructional Coaching
Essential Communication Skills

This course explores how communication can make or break any relationship. Participants will examine and implement effective verbal and nonverbal communication strategies designed to enhance leadership, communication and listening skills, positive thinking, and support.
The course also focuses on the conferencing and facilitation skills that competent coaches require, as well as the importance of confidentiality agreements among coaches, teachers, and principals.
Course Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Describe conferencing, facilitation, presentation, and training best practices.
- Integrate effective communication techniques, including active listening, confirmatory paraphrasing, and positive phrasing.
- Evaluate the flow of verbal exchanges, on- or off-task behaviors, and types of feedback during a classroom observation.
- Compare various types of feedback and when to employ them.
- Summarize the models for defining communication and practicing confidentiality among stakeholders.
