Course Description

This course aligns with PSEL Standard 10, which focuses on promoting continuous school improvement. Designed for educational leaders seeking to drive and sustain positive change, the course explores:

    • Strategies to overcome resistance to change and navigate change aversion
    • Goal-setting practices that prioritize student needs and align individual efforts with school-wide goals
    • Systems thinking and various types of organizational change to determine the most effective approaches for different situations
    • Foundational coaching and mentoring skills to foster lasting improvements in teaching and learning

With a focus on sustainable change—from setting a clear vision to building a collaborative culture—leaders will be equipped to implement meaningful, lasting improvements that benefit both students and staff.

By the end of this course, participants will be better prepared to guide and support continuous improvement efforts within their school communities.

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand effective communication strategies with stakeholders, including the use of social media.
  • Analyze and apply data to ensure student growth, build family partnerships, and support decision-making.
  • Identify the impact of high expectations on student learning and strategies for communicating these expectations to teachers.
  • Explain the role of formative assessment and feedback in supporting teacher growth and instructional improvement.
  • Explore core concepts of distributed leadership and practical approaches to foster shared leadership in schools.
  • Investigate shared decision-making principles, including framing problems and involving stakeholders in solution generation.
